North Lanarkshire Child Protection Procedures

On 29 September 2023 we will launch our updated Child Protection Procedures in North Lanarkshire. These procedures have been refreshed in line with the National guidance for child protection in Scotland 2021. There are multi-agency staff briefings being delivered across the partnership throughout the month of September 2023.

Child Protection and Adult Support and Protection Operational Forum

Our CPC/APC Operational Forum for our partnerships has been arranged for 29 September 2023 and all invites have been shared across the partnership. This forum will focus on Contextual Safeguarding and we are looking forward to welcoming all of those who have committed to attending.

Scotland’s Domestic Abuse Taskforce: Domestic Homicide Review

Scotland’s Domestic Abuse Taskforce is currently scoping the development of a Domestic Homicide Review (DHR) model. They are seeking the views of those with lived experience, such as families of victims of domestic homicide and those professionals working with them.  The responses received will be collated and published as part of a report that the Taskforce will use to inform the model development. Organisations wishing to participate in this review should complete the DHR Model – Engagement Preferences Form before 30 October 2023.

Research into the experience of Black missing children

ListenUp and Missing People are carrying out new research to explore the experiences of Black missing children. This includes any unique drivers for them going missing, any risks that the Black community specifically might be facing, and their experience of the response from the police and other professionals. They will be carrying out interviews with previously missing children, as well as collecting evidence through surveys for young people, their parents, and for the professionals that work with them.

Scottish Recommended Allowance for Foster and Kinship Carers

The Scottish Government has announced the new Scottish Recommended Allowance, the first standard national allowance to help foster and kinship carers support children and young people – the weekly allowances will be backdated to 1 April 2023.

NSPCC – Why Language Matters

NSPCC Learning has published a new blog post as part of their Why Language Matters series explaining ‘early help’ and looking at the differences between ‘early help’ and ‘early intervention’.
